Washington Metro

When I think of subways, I think New York City. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that Washington D.C. had a full underground subway system. (Okay, I know, I don’t get out much). It was a bit confusing learning how to use the machines to buy tickets at first. We had to track down a city worker, who was just thrilled that he had to show these out-of-state yahoos how to put their dollar in the machine to get a token. Once we figured it out, we rode the Metro like pros, although the travel brochures and camera gear might have given us away as tourists.

The Metro was fast, clean and on time. We never waited long and you hardly had time to sit down, before you were at your stop. It sure beat walking up top, especially in the heat and rain. Make sure you learn about the Metro before your visit toĀ Washington D.C. so you can plan your day for the easiest access to the sites.

  1. I love to ride the subway. However, I try to avoid it here in Atlanta. The subway itself is pretty safe. But most of the areas around the stops are not. Good shot Tim.
