The Long Climb to the Basilica

As I have mentioned before, the Basilica of the Sacred Heart is one of the most beautiful buildings in Paris. Though not as large as most, it is close to downtown and the mosaic inside is incredible.

The hardest part is the long climb up to it. The view below is more than half-way up the hill. For people that are not in their prime, there are bus rides that can take you to the top in would rather go that route. The only thing that you won’t enjoy about the visit are the “vendors” selling trinkets on the sidewalk outside. These are not the shops and stores, but the individuals that try to sell you a keychain. If you talk to one, they all come running, so just ignore them and focus on the building. Paris would do well to clean things up some.

Speaking of cleaning things up, in public places, you do not see trash “cans” in England and France. Instead, they have see-through garbage bags, as seen on the right side of the stairs beolw. We were told it’s because garbage cans are an easy place to hide bombs.
