The Horses of the Grand Palais Atop the two corner entrances to the Grand Palais you will find a Quadriga, or a chariot drawn by four horses abreast. They are the the work of French sculptor Georges Récipon, created around 1900. Each entrance is concave, with the quadriga rising a hundred feet above street level. This copper quadriga on the Seine side, Harmony Triumphing Over Discord, weighs 12 tons, yet seems to defy the law of gravity as the horses leap into the air.
Last Minute Sunset Sometimes it's hard to tell how a sunset might develop. Will the clouds hold or will they fade away before the colors really get good? It was late afternoon and I noticed that there were still clouds around. Dinner was on the table, so I ate at a slightly faster pace, then excused myself and grabbed the camera. A few minutes later I was down the street at a high school that has a nice western view. This is one of the few shots I took, just before the clouds started dissipating. Before the sun touched the horizon, most of the clouds were already gone.
View from the Great Tower Spectacularly situated above the White Cliffs of Dover, this magnificent castle has guarded England's shores from invasion for 20 centuries. From High atop the Great Tower, you can see over the grounds of Dover Castle, including the church and lighthouse on the far hill. In the distance is a ferryboat leaving the harbor, carrying passengers, cars and trucks across the English Channel towards France.
